Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in Parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
  5. Gradually add milk, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  7. Roll out to about 1 inch thick and cut into 2-inch rounds.
  8. Place scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using whole wheat flour and less butter. These scones freeze well and can be reheated directly from frozen.
