Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 pound lean ground beef (90 percent lean)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1–1/2 teaspoons chopped shallot
- 1 cup chopped fresh shiitake mushrooms
- 1 cup chopped baby portobello mushrooms
- 1 cup chopped white mushrooms
- 1/4 cup dry red wine
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 package (12 ounces) wonton wrappers
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- Oil for deep fat frying
Instructions
- In a small skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat for 4-5 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl.
- In the same skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and shallots, cooking for one minute.
- Add chopped mushrooms and dry red wine to the skillet. Cook until mushrooms are tender, about 8-10 minutes. Combine with beef in the bowl.
- Stir in minced parsley, salt, and pepper to the beef and mushroom mixture. Mix well.
- Lay out wonton wrappers. Place about 2 teaspoons of filling in each center. Moisten edges with egg-water mixture, fold, and seal.
- Heat oil in an electric skillet to 375°F. Fry wontons for 60-90 seconds per side until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them.
- Drain fried wontons on paper towels and serve warm.
Notes
These wontons can be served with dipping sauces such as soy sauce or garlic aioli. They are best enjoyed hot and fresh from the fryer.
