Chocolate Malted Milk Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup malted milk powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons malted milk powder (for glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, malted milk powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add the cream mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times.
  8. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick, then cut into 12 wedges.
  9. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, malted milk powder, and enough milk to reach desired consistency.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over warm scones before serving.

Notes

These scones can be made healthier using less sugar or by substituting ingredients for a lighter version.
