Chocolate Toffee Crackers

A delightful treat combining crunchy saltine crackers with buttery toffee and smooth chocolate, perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 25
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 35 saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, well packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Line a jelly roll pan (10 x 15 inches) with nonstick foil or a silicone baking mat. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the crackers in a single layer on the jelly roll pan to cover the whole pan.
  3. Melt brown sugar and butter together in a 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil, then boil for 3 minutes while stirring almost continuously.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Mix well.
  5. Pour the caramel mixture over the saltines and spread evenly using a spatula.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes until the caramel is bubbling. Watch closely to ensure it doesn’t burn.
  7. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top and cover with foil. Let sit for 5 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt.
  8. Remove the foil and spread the melted chocolate with an offset spatula. Add toppings if desired.
  9. Let cool at room temperature or chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours to set.
  10. Carefully peel away the foil, then crack into pieces or cut with a knife.
  11. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

For added flavor, you can customize the recipe with nuts, different types of chocolate chips, or flavored extracts.
