- 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil’s food cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 3 eggs
- 0.33 cup vegetable oil
- 1.5 (16 ounce) packages prepared vanilla frosting
- 1 (7 ounce) pouch prepared chocolate frosting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two 12-cup muffin tins with paper liners.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, eggs, and oil. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until moistened, about 30 seconds. Then beat at medium speed until smooth, about 2 minutes.
- Spoon the batter into muffin cups, filling each about 3/4 full.
- Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 18 to 20 minutes. Cool in tins for 15 minutes, then remove from tins to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Frost each cupcake with a thin layer of vanilla frosting and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Apply a second layer of white frosting, then use a piping bag with chocolate frosting to decorate skull faces on each cupcake.
Notes
Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze unfrosted for up to 3 months.
