New Hampshire Maple-Walnut Scones

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in walnuts and maple syrup.
  5. Add milk and vanilla extract, mixing until just combined.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  7. Pat into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into wedges.
  8. Place scones on a baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes until golden.
  9. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth.
  10. Drizzle over warm scones before serving.
