Paula Deen’s Green Bean Casserole

A warm and comforting casserole featuring fresh green beans, mushrooms, onions, and a creamy sauce, perfect for holiday gatherings or weeknight dinners.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/3 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups sliced green beans
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 1 (10.75-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup French-fried onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Trim and wash the green beans. Dice the onion and slice fresh mushrooms.
  2. Melt butter in a pan and cook the onion and mushrooms until soft.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for a short time, ensuring it does not burn.
  4. Stir in the green beans and season with a little salt and pepper.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and let the mixture simmer until the beans are tender.
  6. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup to create a creamy sauce.
  7. Pour the mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese and French-fried onions on top.
  8. Bake until the cheese melts and the top is light brown. Let it rest a few minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving. For added flavor, sprinkle a few fried onions on just before the end of baking.
