Ingredients

- 4 lbs red potatoes, cleaned and rinsed, cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp pepper, or to taste
- 1 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic (about 4 cloves)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup cream, warmed in the microwave
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed in the microwave, or as desired
- Minced chives and butter, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Spray a 6 to 7-quart slow cooker with non-stick spray.
- Place the cleaned and cut potatoes in the slow cooker.
- Pour the 1/2 cup of water evenly over the potatoes.
- Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the top, tossing to coat the potatoes evenly.
- Add the minced garlic and pour the melted butter over the potatoes.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on high heat for about 4 to 4 ½ hours until the potatoes are tender, without draining the water.
- Use a potato masher to mash the potatoes.
- Add the sour cream and heavy cream to the mashed potatoes and whip with an electric hand mixer until desired texture.
- As you mix, add warm milk until you achieve the consistency you like.
- Serve warm, optionally topped with more butter and minced chives.
Notes
These mashed potatoes can be served with various main dishes and are easy to store for leftovers.
