- 4 large egg whites
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Colored sugar or gluten free sprinkles (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°F (95°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar while continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Transfer meringue mixture to a piping bag and pipe bone shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.
- Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours until dry and crisp.
- Turn off the oven and let meringues cool completely in the oven.
Notes
Meringue bones can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container. Avoid making these on humid days for best results.
