- 1 large egg
- 3 tablespoons crushed butter flavored crackers
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
- 3/4 pound ground beef
- 1 can (4 ounces) mushroom stems and pieces, drained
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups water
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 1/4 teaspoon browning sauce (optional)
- Hot mashed potatoes
- Minced fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the egg, cracker crumbs, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and sage. Mix until smooth.
- Add the ground beef and mix until evenly combined. Shape into two patties.
- Heat a medium skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side. Drain excess fat and keep warm.
- Sauté the drained mushrooms in 2 tablespoons of butter for about 2 minutes.
- Add the flour and blend well until smooth.
- Slowly stir in the water and bouillon, cooking until thickened.
- Stir in browning sauce if desired. Return patties to the skillet and coat with gravy, cooking for 10 minutes.
- Serve with mashed potatoes and sprinkle with parsley if desired.
Notes
Best served hot with a side of lingonberry sauce or roasted vegetables.
