- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Gel food coloring in red and green
- Optional: 2 to 3 tablespoons holiday sprinkles
Instructions
- Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients and mix just until combined.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts and tint one red, one green, and leave one plain.
- Chill the dough for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Roll each colored dough into a rectangle approximately 9 by 12 inches and 1/4 inch thick.
- Stack the layers and gently roll them into a log using parchment paper.
- Wrap the log tightly and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Slice the log into 1/4 inch thick cookies.
- Roll the edges in sprinkles (optional).
- Bake at 350°F for 9 to 11 minutes.
Notes
Chill twice if your kitchen is warm to maintain clean lines, and use a thin knife for slicing.
