This classic Caesar salad recipe features crisp romaine, homemade croutons, and a creamy, tangy dressing for a restaurant-quality dish at home.

  • 4 cups cubed crusty bread (sourdough, ciabatta, or baguette)
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Sea salt, for sprinkling
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 garlic clove, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon anchovy paste (optional)
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon red wine vinegar (optional)
  • 1 pound romaine lettuce, chopped
  • ½ cup shaved Parmesan cheese
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place bread cubes on the sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and season with sea salt, garlic powder, and oregano.
  3. Bake for 10-18 minutes, stirring halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, anchovy paste (if using), sea salt, black pepper, and red wine vinegar.
  5. Stir in grated Parmesan cheese and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. In a large salad bowl, combine romaine lettuce, half of the dressing, half of the croutons, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  7. Toss to coat, then add remaining croutons, cheese, black pepper, and lemon zest.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes
